You Are Not Your Label/ Adapting to Huge Life Change - Interview with Kat Paylor-Bent
The Restless Midlifer : Episode 103
It's episode 103. This week I share some insights into overcoming our tendency to label ourselves (not to mention others) and how this can mean we don't address the real underlying reasons why we often struggle to achieve our health and weight loss goals. Do you call yourself, 'lazy', 'greedy' 'useless'? The this is for you.
I am also delighted to be joined by Kat Paylor-Bent, an Adaptive FasionDesigner, Wheelchair user and advocate for inclusivity. We explore Kat's life changing injury 16 years ago, and how she and her family have worked hard to adapt and build a life around this and other challenges. inspirational, insightful and well worth a listen!
Kat Paylor-Bent is a wheelchair using Fashion and Inclusion expert.
She acquired my injury 16 years ago, and she is in the unenviable position of being on both sides of the disability fence, but this hasn't stopped her. Instead, she has used her passion for life to highlight the need for more equality and inclusion within the fashion industry.
Clothing is a universal right for every human, yet those in the disabled community encounter barriers every day of their life to functional, comfortable and above all fashionable clothing. Seated Sewing was founded to provide bespoke outfits for the disabled community.
Kat also co-founded Seated Perspectives with Isaac Harvey, which provides access videos that help to showcase good accessibility of venues. All too often venues, be that business or leisure facilities have got exceptional access and facilities but they don’t shout about it. So the videos we create help to showcase facilities and advertise it to the wider disabled community.
Kat wants to use her platform to change that narrative and make the world more equitable and inclusive.
