Sunburn and Stepping It Up

Into the Groove
I'm getting into the groove with the training plan - doing three runs a week and aiming to stick to the mileage on the plan for each week. That meant a long-ish run this Sunday. Nine miles.
I decided to join the running club to do 5 miles with them and tagged on before and after the remaining distance. It really helped having company for the majority of the run. That's the power of social interaction - it can be engaging and distracting so you don't think about the running as much. That said, by the end of the run my feet were really sore.
Which brings me to another point about the power of connecting and socialising around my chosen activities. I got speaking to one of the more seasoned runners in the group who later gave me a bunch of great tips to help with the foot soreness. I am now going to get hold of some insoles to cushion the balls of my feet and hopefully help with that. It really does help in so many ways to not only socialise but be open to taking tips and advice from others - particularly those who have been in the trenches and learned the hard way - through experience. The little hacks and tips can be worth their weight in gold.
As well as the run, Lesley and I attended the wedding of some good friends down near Leeds. We had intended to stay over, but due to child-care issues, we ended up driving down and back in the same day. That actually helped with the Sunday run as I wasn't hung over making getting out of bed to actually head out of the door so much easier. Sometimes it's good to just roll with the punches and find the silver lining.
That said, it was a lovely day and a fun wedding with a first for me. The bride and groom actually performed in the band together! So I can now say I've seen a bride in her dress melting guitar strings as she played lead guitar to 'I Predict a Riot' - Awesome.
I did however, forget the suncream and caught the sun on the top of my head (hence being a bit red in the food for thought video). The way the weather has been lately, it's easy to get caught out with these changes. Nevertheless I still enjoyed the day and lesson learned. As Baz Lerman says 'always wear sunscreen.'
So, this week continues with the running and I am looking forward to (not really) an eleven miler at the weekend. As the mileage cranks up I am also having to look further ahead and consider how I manage the running with a couple of holidays coming up between now and the marathon in October. Especially since the heat will be a factor if i choose to run any significant distance when abroad.
I'm going to have to consider head wear, hydration and whether I really do the full mileage required in the given weeks. Or do I take the opportunity to go lighter, rest and make up for it when back in the UK? Not sure and I think I'll take a bit of advice on it as there are clearly more experienced runners who can give me a steer.
Staying Humble
Which is important for me as I am prone to just bull-dozing on and doing it anyway because it's written down in a spreadsheet. Knowing that, i am going to make a point of asking for advice. Staying humble on this one.
So my question to you is, what might you be pressing on with that could benefit from a pause and consideration as to whether anyone else might actually have the advice you need? This could be in your health or equally in a work or personal issue. You don't need to go it alone. You have nothing to prove.
